Designing for New York’s weekly print magazine for 6 years was a design boot camp for learning the visual DNA and history of a 50 year old venerated brand. I gained a deep knowledge of the brand's visual language, which I then spent the next 3+ years up-leveling all of New York Media’s digital products by better synthesizing the brand expression into the product: websites; a homegrown CMS; pattern and component libraries; architecture; editorial; social media; custom story design; and external platforms. As an epilogue to this work, these principles evolved to become a northstar, which serves as the foundation that continues to shape the work today.
